IGN Activist/Translator Khee Hoon Chan SEETHING At Black Myth: Wukong Success

The Downfall of Activist Khee Hoon Chan: When Personal Bias Crushes Professional Integrity.

Not a Mask Slip Moment... This Is Mask, FULLY RIPPED OFF.

In a saga that has captivated a very large portion of the gaming community, Khee Hoon Chan has emerged not as the herald of truth, but as a harbinger of 'fake news'. As a co-author (alongside Rebekah Valentine) of the notoriously now infamous hit piece against "Black Myth: Wukong" and its developer, Game Science, Khee Hoon Chan attempted to destroy the game's reputation before its release. But no - the tables have turned dramatically with Black Myth: Wukong achieving sales surpassing 10 million copies, challenging records for the top-selling game at launch... and directly contradicting her smear campaign.

Khee Hoon's response to the overwhelming success of the game has been nothing short of unhinged. Her public outbursts on social media reveal a profound inability to reconcile with the game's positive sentiment.

As I'll dive into in this article, you won't believe just how crazy she really is...

"I'm so fucking pissed off. This has gone too far. Don't play Black Myth Wukong. If you must, go and pirate it. If you enjoy it, I do not want to know it. Fuck Game Science and all the grifters who are doing this to one of my fave people in the industry"

She tweeted, calling for a boycott and wildly even encouraging piracy, a stance that not only brings her ethics into question, but also her understanding of the legal and moral frameworks within the gaming industry... Not that she cares, clearly.

Her refusal to acknowledge any viewpoint but her own falls right in line with exactly how Rabekah Valentine handled the situation. It's further highlighted in another tweet where Chan dismisses the backlash against her mistranslation accusations as "very stupid"...

But before we dive too far into Black Myth: Wukong's slander piece - we need to dive into the background of Chan, because it provides some important perspective as to why this individual takes the approach they do... as well as why they should absolutely NOT have a job anywhere near the video game industry.

It's because, well... shocker - she hates journalism. In her article on Medium "How to get into games journalism", Chan states:

"Personally, I didn’t start out wanting to be a journalist or even a writer; the only thing I ever wanted to be since young was to be a musician"

Chan is actually... (shocker incoming) a self-admitted activist:

"I have been inspired by local journalist/activist/writing extraordinaire Kirsten Han’s piece on how to get into journalism, and had wanted to pen this because I had wondered, in recent months, where anything gestures wildly is taking me."

As Chan explains even further:

"The shitty thing about journalism, especially games journalism
...it’ll be remiss of me to acknowledge that having any success in journalism will boil down to issues around class, race and privilege."

Chan's actions following the community backlash are telling. Knowing a bit of her background now and why she actively hates gamers, let's continue back to the Wukong hit piece...

Like Valentine, she's resorted to blocking any critics (including myself) and switching her Twitter account to protected mode (shocker, I know), isolating herself from further debate and discussion and retreating deep into an echo chamber. This shows a broader trend among certain journalists who opt for isolation over engagement when their narratives are challenged.

The insights provided by Olde Man Grim shed light on a deeper issue within gaming journalism—where personal biases overshadow factual reporting and journalistic integrity.

Chan's narrative has been completely debunked by not just an actual Chinese Youtuber fluent in native mandarin, but also - the undeniable success of "Black Myth: Wukong" - a game that continues to receive acclaim and support from gamers worldwide. Breaking concurrent player records and now approaching the fastest selling game ever.

As Khee Hoon continues to barricade herself behind a wall of denial, the gaming community moves forward taking note, while also celebrating the groundbreaking achievements of Game Science.

The stark disparity between her claims and the reality of "Black Myth: Wukong's" success serves as a potent reminder: in the end, the quality of a game and the truth of its appeal will always outshine attempts to undermine it through biased and unfounded criticism. Real journalism is about integrity and accountability - getting the story right, and swallowing pride when required. Hide all you want. The secret is out...
