Nintendo Direct June 2024 Was a BANGER!

The latest Nintendo Direct June 2024 was packed with exciting announcements and updates... after all these years with the Switch, they still have the magic touch to blow gamers' minds (well.. at least mine).


This is how you do it. Here’s a rundown of what was revealed, along with some thoughts.


New Titles and Updates

Mario & Luigi: Brothership

  • Release Date: November 7, 2024

  • Thoughts: A new Mario & Luigi game is always a treat. As a huge fan of Superstar Saga, this one hit me hard. The series has a rich history of combining humor, engaging gameplay, and creative storytelling. "Brothership" sounds like it will continue this tradition, and I can’t wait to see what new adventures Mario and Luigi will embark on.


Nintendo World Championship: NES Edition

  • Release Date: July 18, 2024 (Pre-orders available now)

  • Thoughts: Reviving the Nintendo World Championship is a brilliant move. It taps into the nostalgia of long-time fans while introducing the competitive spirit of classic NES games to a new generation.


Fairy Tale 2

  • Release Window: Winter 2024

  • Thoughts: The sequel to Fairy Tale is sure to excite fans of the original. Winter can't come soon enough to dive back into this magical world. Not necessarily my cup of tea, but cool for those into it!


Fantasian Neo Dimension

  • Release Window: Winter 2024

  • Thoughts: Another intriguing addition. Fantasian has a unique charm, and this new installment promises to expand its imaginative universe. Coming from the father of Final Fantasy, it definitely caught my eye!


Nintendo Switch Sports: Basketball Update

  • Release Window: Summer 2024

  • Thoughts: Adding basketball to Nintendo Switch Sports is a great way to keep the game fresh and engaging. I’m looking forward to some competitive matches with friends.


Mio: Memories in Orbit

  • Announcement: New game

  • Thoughts: This title is shrouded in mystery, but the name suggests an intriguing narrative experience. Eager to learn more.


Disney Illusion Island Update

  • Release: Later today

  • Thoughts: Free updates are always welcome. Disney Illusion Island has been a delightful game, and additional content will only enhance the experience.



Hello Kitty Island Adventure

  • Release: Next year (Console exclusive)

  • Thoughts: This is a charming addition to the Switch’s lineup, perfect for younger audiences and Hello Kitty fans. I know my daughter will love this one!


Looney Tunes: Whacky Worlds of Sports

  • Release Window: Autumn 2024

  • Thoughts: This game looks like it will be a fun, chaotic sports experience with beloved characters. Excited to see how it turns out.


Among Us Update

  • Release: Later today

  • Thoughts: New content for Among Us is always exciting. The new crewmate and killer will surely bring fresh dynamics to the game.


Farmagia

  • Release Date: November 1, 2024

  • Thoughts: With character design by Hiro Mashima, Farmagia promises to be a visually stunning game with compelling characters.


Donkey Kong Country Returns HD

  • Release Date: January 16, 2025

  • Thoughts: An HD remake of a beloved classic is always a win. The Donkey Kong Country series is renowned for its challenging platforming and vibrant visuals. I know a lot of folks were hoping for a full-fledged sequel, but odds are Nintendo is saving that for the Switch successor. This works in the meantime!


Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake

  • Release Date: November 14, 2024

  • Thoughts: The HD-2D style is perfect for Dragon Quest 3, combining nostalgia with modern aesthetics. This will be a must-play for fans of the series... But with all these RPG's lately, it feels more like too many great games, never enough time!


Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake

  • Release Window: 2025

  • Thoughts: Following Dragon Quest 3, these remakes will offer a wonderful way to experience the origins of the series with a fresh coat of paint.


Funko Fusion

  • Release Date: September 13, 2024

  • Thoughts: Funko Fusion looks like a fun crossover game. The trailer showcased some entertaining gameplay, and it should be a hit with Funko Pop collectors. Not really up my alley, but hey - looks cool enough.


Luigi's Mansion 2 HD

  • Release Date: June 27, 2024

  • Thoughts: Luigi’s Mansion 2 in HD will be a treat. The original game was full of charm and atmosphere, and an HD version will make it even better!


The New Denpa Men

  • Release Date: July 26, 2024 (Switch Exclusive)

  • Thoughts: This game looks quirky and fun, fitting perfectly with Nintendo's unique lineup. Excited to see what new adventures await.


Metal Slug Attack Reloaded

  • Release: Later today

  • Thoughts: Metal Slug games are always a blast. The Reloaded version should offer the same fast-paced action that fans love.


Darkest Dungeon 2

  • Release Date: July 15, 2024

  • Thoughts: Bringing Darkest Dungeon 2 to Switch is great news. Its intense, strategic gameplay will be perfect for handheld mode.


GBA NSO Service Updates

  • Games Added: Legend of Zelda Four Swords Adventure & Metroid Fusion (Available today)

  • Thoughts: Adding these classics to the GBA NSO service enhances its value significantly. Both games are essential plays for fans.



N64 NSO Service Updates

  • Games Added: Turok 64 & Perfect Dark (Available today)

  • Thoughts: These mature titles are iconic. Their addition to the NSO service is a great way to preserve and celebrate gaming history. Perfect Dark adding online multiplayer is a huge bonus!


Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero

  • Release Window: 2025

  • Thoughts: A new Phantom Brave game is exciting news. It’s known for its unique gameplay mechanics and engaging story.


Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection Arcade Classics

  • Release Window: 2024

  • Thoughts: This collection will be a hit with fighting game enthusiasts. It’s a perfect way to relive the glory days of arcade gaming.


Super Mario Party Jamboree

  • Release Date: October 17, 2024

  • Thoughts: Mario Party games are always a blast with friends. Jamboree looks to continue the tradition of fun and chaos.


The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

  • Release Date: September 26, 2024 (with a limited edition Switch Lite)

  • Thoughts: A Zelda game where you can play as Zelda herself is a fantastic twist. The gameplay in the style of Link's Awakening is a perfect fit.


Just Dance 2025 Edition

  • Release Window: October 2024

  • Thoughts: Just Dance continues to be a staple for party games. The new edition promises more songs and fun.


Lego Horizon Adventures

  • Release Window: Winter 2024

  • Thoughts: Lego games are consistently entertaining, and this one looks no different. Exploring new horizons in Lego form will be a delight.


Stray

  • Release Window: Winter 2024

  • Thoughts: Stray coming to Switch is great news. Its unique perspective and storytelling will be a hit on the platform.


Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game

  • Release Window: Winter 2024

  • Thoughts: A Lord of the Rings game is always exciting. The Shire setting suggests a cozy experience filled with a lot of... food preparation? I mean.. alright I guess lol.


Ace Attorney Investigations Collection

  • Release Date: September 6, 2024

  • Thoughts: Playing as Miles Edgeworth in the Ace Attorney series is a treat. This collection will be a must-have for fans of the series.



The Hundred Line: Last Defence Academy

  • Release Window: Next year

  • Thoughts: From the creators of Danganronpa, this game promises a gripping story and unique characters.


Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven Remake

  • Release Date: October 24, 2024

  • Thoughts: This remake will introduce the classic to a new audience while delighting long-time fans with its updated visuals. I never got into this initially, but always wanted to.


Final Announcement

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

  • Release Window: 2025

  • Thoughts: Ending the Direct with Metroid Prime 4 was a masterstroke. The gameplay looks fantastic, and the long wait seems worth it. This will be a major title for the Switch, and since it will be coming out in 2025, it will most likely be a cross-platform launch between the Switch and the Switch successor.


Final Direct Thoughts

Overall, this Nintendo Direct was packed with exciting announcements and updates. From new installments in beloved series to intriguing new IPs, there’s a lot to look forward to in the coming months.
