No DLC on the Horizon for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TOTK)?
Recent insights from an interview with the minds behind The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom hint at an unexpected turn: Nintendo may not have DLC in the cards for this game, contrary to what many assumed was a forgone conclusion to include eventually.
No DLC Planned For Zelda Tears Of the Kingdom
The source of this revelation is a Famitsu interaction with the series producer, Eiji Aonuma, and director Hidemaro Fujibayashi. It's essential to note, though, that our current interpretation of this interview comes from a Google Translate rendition, which can sometimes lead to nuanced interpretations.
Towards the interview's end, when quizzed about their next steps, the duo's answers raised eyebrows. Fujibayashi expressed uncertainty about his subsequent project, while Aonuma's response, though translated, hinted at no additional content for the recent Zelda game:
Aonuma shared:
While we don't foresee new content additions, it's because we believe we've already offered a comprehensive experience in that universe. The decision to sequel the predecessor was driven by the potential of introducing players to a renewed adventure in the same Hyrule. If conditions align, we might revisit this realm. But, whether it's a continuation or a fresh title, expect it to be an entirely novel experience. Stay tuned!
Though Aonuma's statement leaves room for interpretation, it leans towards the absence of DLC for Tears of the Kingdom. This has understandably caught many off-guard. Given that Breath of the Wild (BOTW) witnessed two DLC packs, fans anticipated a similar trajectory for its successor. However, given the expansive world of Tears of the Kingdom, one wonders what additional content might even entail.
For now, unless Nintendo provides further insights, fans might have to recalibrate their expectations regarding any additional content for Tears of the Kingdom. It's a tad disappointing.

Tears of the Kingdom feels like DLC. Big DLC, sure, heck let's call it an 'Expansion Pack' like the old days. The problem with expansion packs is that they are only a third or at best, half the price of a new game. Tears cost MORE than Breath. So Nintendo can add a couple new things, plaster it over the same map again, maybe even mirror the map if the want to get fancy, and BAM! Now we have Mucous of the Municipality. Saliva of the Sovreign, or even Farts of the Farmlands. $90 please.
