Sex Worker Gets Mad I Called Her a Sex Worker

Updated: May 15

...More at 11!

Video game journalism is a complete shitshow right now thanks to places like Kotaku pushing agendas instead of games.

Now, community interactions have morphed into the (all too) predictable subject of online "harassment" has surfaced with renewed intensity, with voices like @EmmySpeens trying their best to add their "thoughts" to the conversation.

In a recent live stream, EmmySpeens passionately addressed what she perceives as rampant bullying and harassment directed towards journalists, particularly, a former sex worker turned undercover activist posing as a journalist Alyssa Mercante of Kotaku. However, EmmySpeens's approach and rhetoric during the stream have sparked a broader conversation about her methods in the gaming community...

EmmySpeens advocates for a decisive and exclusionary tactic, aiming to "push out" gamers who partake in or support harassment, aiming to create a "safer space" for journalists and those she aligns with ideologically. This stance, while rooted in the desire to curb toxicity, raises significant concerns about freedom of expression and the potential to alienate parts of the gaming community. Her strategy, as witnessed during her emotionally charged broadcast, involves not only illogically defending 'victims of harassment' but also, suggesting that those who harass should be ostracized from gaming spaces. Real sound logic here.

Throughout her stream, EmmySpeens presented a demeanor that some viewers found to be less than coherent—a portrayal that bounces around between contradiction, anger and frustration. Her discourse frequently seemed contradictory, undermining any credibility and rationality of her arguments.

For instance, while she condemns the harassment of journalists for their work and personal backgrounds, she simultaneously proposes aggressively excluding those with opposing views from gaming discussions and platforms.

EmmySpeens's stream, described by some on Twitter as "unhinged," did not always adhere to a clear or logical flow, often veering into personal rants rather than structured discussion. This presentation style may not resonate with all viewers, particularly those who value discourse based on calm reasoning and structured debate. The aggressive tone and sometimes disjointed nature of her arguments could potentially detract from the critical issue at hand: the real and harmful effects of online harassment.

EmmySpeens's approach might not only fail to address the root causes of harassment in gaming but could also inadvertently perpetuate division within the community. By advocating for the exclusion and marginalization of those she identifies as antagonists, she risks creating further polarization in an already divided community.

The challenges facing the gaming community in terms of harassment and toxicity are complex and multifaceted. While the frustration and anger EmmySpeens expresses are undoubtedly shared by many who have experienced or witnessed harassment, the solution may require more nuanced and inclusive strategies.

Her recently deleted tweet that I reply to below:

These would involve community-wide engagement and dialogue, rather than exclusion and vilification, to foster a more inclusive, respectful gaming culture.

Emmy's fervent stance highlights the ongoing struggle against online harassment in gaming. However, her approach—marked by emotional intensity and calls for exclusion—might not effectively bridge divides or promote the kind of comprehensive cultural change necessary to combat harassment in the gaming community sustainably.

...She also took real issues with me calling a spade a spade. Dealing with facts is not something these types are used to doing.

As the conversation progresses, it becomes increasingly clear that a balance must be struck between combating toxicity and maintaining a community that welcomes diverse viewpoints and dialogues.

My advice for this Mouthy little tart would be for her to keep her Big Piehole shut on these things because she has NO business talking about something that she isn't apart of

Not tryin' to be mean here, but...I look at some of these sex workers and "former" sex workers and can't help but think, "Are folks really that desperate in 2024?" 😬
