Slanderous Hit Piece Fuels Alyssa Mercante's False Narrative Against Smash JT

The Brooklyn Eagle’s One-Sided Hit Piece: Exposing the Truth Behind the Actual Slander

On December 13, 2024, a publication that I'd never heard of before called "The Brooklyn Daily Eagle" published an article (Archive link) titled “‘GamerGate’ lawsuit between video game reviewers hits Brooklyn court” presenting a blatantly biased and one-sided narrative about the ongoing legal dispute involving myself and Alyssa Mercante. The article goes out of it's way to portray Mercante as a ‘victim’ of harassment, sighting her lawsuit allegations to paint me as an evil ‘bad guy’ figure—while in the same breath, it was all conveniently omitting any crucial facts and evidence that expose the real dynamics of this case. It's fascinating to see how fake news runs in real-time when an agenda is at play.

The Convenient “Staff” Attribution

Right off the bat - one of the most telling aspects of the Brooklyn Eagle’s article is the absence of any author’s name. Instead, of course... the piece is attributed to the generic “staff” title, which raises questions about accountability and transparency. I tried to research connections to Alyssa from this, but was unable... Because of no additional information being provided.

Why would a publication fail to provide any byline for such a contentious piece? Well, let's be real... It's pretty obvious once you start reading. The outlet deliberately hides their identity to shield them from scrutiny. Considering that the Brooklyn Eagle is based in close proximity to where Alyssa Mercante lives, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that the author may be a friend or associate of hers... or even potentially Alyssa herself writing the article and submitting it to publish, working hard to push this false narrative.

This is actually the problem with injected biases from activists in hiding. I wouldn’t be surprised if stuff likes this is sourced by her lawyers, either... But at this point, it's all speculation on my part. Here's how to get an article published to their site, btw:

Selective Quoting and One-Sided Reporting

The article is riddled with selective quoting that only amplifies Alyssa Mercante’s angle, while completely ignoring my side of the story. The claims are presented as fact, without any attempt to verify its validity or provide evidence. It doesn't showcase my constant rebuttals using her own tweets as evidence against her claims. The article does this same exact tactic over and over, failing to mention that much of what Mercante alleges as “defamation” are really in the end, just statements she herself made publicly on Twitter. Mercante’s own words—now that she has conveniently deleted—and were all part of my coverage, which I’ve documented in previous coverage. The very same coverage she now conveniently uses to say I'm covering her too much and it is somehow harassment to her by getting the truth out. The omissions left out of this piece are a glaring example of the Brooklyn Eagle’s failure to engage in any kind of honest, balanced journalism.

Ignoring Key Facts

The article goes out of it's way to gloss over and even outright ignore the fact that Alyssa Mercante has been caught red-handed deleting extremely incriminating tweets where she had openly admitted to sexual behaviors and attitudes.

...The very same she now ironically claims are somehow defamatory.

Mercante has made multiple public statements on Twitter regarding her personal views and behaviors, which were later used as evidence in this case. Instead of addressing any of this for a fair perspective, the Brooklyn Eagle instead allows for someone here to try and rewrite the narrative, completely unchallenged.

The False Victim Narrative

The article perpetuates a victim narrative for Mercante without a serious or any critical examination to balance it all out. By portraying me as a “GamerGate” villain and framing Mercante as the victimized party, the publication tries its darndest to vilify me... while excusing her lengthy documented actions. The selective framing throughout it serves only to undermine the legitimacy of the legal proceedings and fuels public bias… as much as they can at least. But does any of this really matter? Well... Not yet, BUT....

Folks in the comment replies (above) are attempting to push this false narrative from a joke news outlet in The Brooklyn Eagle out further, to perpetuate the lies. Trying to get larger outlets to report on an extremely fabricated and opinionated story. I'd assume this is in hopes of then using those larger outlets as sources in court against me. It's insidious how they work in the backend to push fake news.

Building a Fabricated Case

This piece honestly reads more like a coordinated effort to bolster Mercante’s claims than an unbiased report. The location of Brooklyn Eagle’s proximity to Mercante’s, alongside the lack of journalistic transparency lead me to immediately question directly whether this is actually just a poor attempt at journalism …or far more likely, a smear campaign orchestrated by someone with very vested interests. By omitting any of my documented evidence and just pointing out the lawsuit accusations, the article fabricates a narrative designed to sway public opinion and build more of a case against me.

Breaking Down the Bias

  1. Convenient Omissions:

    • The article fails to mention that Mercante has publicly admitted to the very behaviors she now claims are somehow defamatory. Her deleted tweets, which I’ve extensively archived, provide everyone undeniable proof of her hypocrisy.

  2. Selective Framing:

    • By only quoting Mercante and omitting my side, the article skews the narrative in her favor. Where is the analysis of the evidence I’ve presented? No where to be found...

  3. No Accountability:

    • Without an author’s name, there isn't any accountability for the clear bias in this piece. The anonymity of the “staff” attribution raises serious ethical concerns. Pair that with how this publication allows for user submissions... It's gotta make you wonder - where did it come from?

Conclusion

The Brooklyn Eagle’s article is not journalism; it’s a one-sided hit piece designed to vilify me and promote Alyssa Mercante’s false victim narrative. By selectively quoting Mercante, ignoring key facts, and omitting my documented evidence, the publication has decided to engage in slander against Smash JT rather than actual balanced reporting.

This lawsuit is about holding people accountable for their words and actions. Unfortunately, the Brooklyn Eagle’s biased coverage here only serves to further muddy the waters and perpetuate falsehoods. I encourage everyone to review the evidence I’ve documented and draw their own conclusions in my video coverage of her antics along the way.

This is a fight for transparency and accountability—both in the courtroom and in the media... and we WILL prevail.
