Netflix has announced the massively popular indie platforming game Cuphead will be coming to their streaming platform in the form of the new animated series “The Cuphead Show!”
Cuphead, developed and published by Studio MDHR, launched in 2017 and has since blown away gamers and cartoon fans alike. The game uses hand-drawn animations inspired by the classic Fleischer cartoons of the 1930s (referenced in the Official Smash JT Review of Cuphead on YouTube: https://youtu.be/Is4KXVB0Zt8 ).
In the press release, Netflix also announced that Cuphead has now sold over 4 million copies worldwide and won the best independent game award at the 2017 Game Awards and a BAFTA Games award for its music.
The Cuphead Show will follow the misadventures of Cuphead and his trusty sidekick Mugman as they traverse the fantastic world of Inkwell Isles established by the Cuphead game. The Cuphead Show will not retell the story of the Cuphead game, but instead will follow an entirely new adventure not yet decided. The animation work is being handled completely in-house by Netflix, not by the original series creators.
No dates or specific storylines have been disclosed yet, but stay tuned for more information on Smash JT!
