In a bombshell revelation, Politico, an extremist left-leaning news outlet known for their hostility toward Gamergate and the entire gaming community, has been exposed for receiving over $8 million in taxpayer dollars through USAID and other government contracts.

The Trump administration has already acted swiftly, with White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announcing that Politico’s funding is being terminated effective immediately.

I first saw friend of the channel Grummz highlight X user Anarseldain, who shed light on how taxpayer money was being funneled into mainstream media to promote woke narratives and leading to DIRECTLY attacking gamers.

A search of Politico’s archives reveals at least 22 articles on Gamergate, consistently framing it as a “disinformation” and “harassment” campaign while championing diversity initiatives in gaming.

X user @Anarseldain reacted to the revelations by sharing screenshots from Politico articles smearing Gamergate, stating:

“People have wondered if our tax dollars were used to promote wokeness in video games, and the answer is YES. USAID paid Politico millions per year to write pieces like this one, which promotes ‘diversity’ and describes Gamergate as a ‘disinformation’ and ‘harassment’ campaign.”

This all raises some serious concerns about whether federal funds were being used to push a 'certain' political agenda in gaming journalism—effectively turning media outlets into government-subsidized propaganda machines to push a narrative in the mainstream.

Trump Administration Shuts Down the Funding

During Wednesday’s White House press briefing, Leavitt confirmed the immediate termination of Politico’s taxpayer funding:

“I was made aware of funding from USAID to media outlets… including Politico… who I know has a seat in this room,” Leavitt stated. “The $8M you receive ends today. The DOGE Team is canceling those payments now.”

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, has been tasked with eliminating wasteful federal spending, including subsidies for partisan media outlets.... and ohhh boy, they were not messing around. President Donald Trump weighed in on the insanity via Truth Social, calling the situation a "massive scandal":

“It looks like billions of dollars have been stolen at USAID and other agencies, with much of it going to the fake news media as a ‘payoff’ for creating favorable stories about the Democrats. The left-wing outlet Politico appears to have received $8 million. Did The New York Times receive money? Who else did? This could be the biggest scandal of them all—perhaps the biggest in history. The Democrats can’t hide from this one. It’s too big, too dirty!”

• Reuters – $3.1 million

• The New York Times – $378,266

These discoveries come as Musk and the Trump administration have ramped up efforts to cut wasteful federal spending. Leavitt made it clear that taxpayer money should not be funding media outlets that push political agendas instead of serving the greater public interest:

“The Trump Administration is going line-by-line when it comes to the Federal Government’s books”

“Anything that does not serve the interests of the American people will be cut.”

Politico’s Financial Troubles Deepen

Politico’s woes don’t end with the funding scandal being discovered here. According to Fox News, Politico had missed its latest payroll, though the company later claimed the issue had been resolved. Per Fox News:

An employee told Fox News Digital that management didn’t communicate the issue until 9 a.m., when they chalked it up as a "technical error."
